Will the new smoking band actually help ?

Do you reckon the new Smoking ban on 1 JUly 2007 will save so many lives, that people may believe is true!???Will the new smoking band actually help ?
Absolutely not. If we all gave up smoking, something else would start killing us off. We're not all meant to live an easy life to a ripe old age. We're losing our rights to be free.
It will help me - I can go out and breathe. Don't I have a right to that ?Will the new smoking band actually help ?
No because there will still be millions of cars polluting the air which I think causes far more deaths than smoking does.
I would say it certainly has in Scotland, some might say that thyeystay at home to smoke now to "avoid" the ban but without a doubt if it has been made more difficult ie standing out side in the freezing cold rain/snow/hail etc this will deter all but the hardened smokers ;o)

It is certainly helping non smokers heath, it is not their choice to "smoke" up to 20 cigarettes a night from second hand smoke just to enjoy a social drinkWill the new smoking band actually help ?
Only if they make a hit record! ...... actually, I think it will. but maybe more lives will be saved if they banned alcohol.... Hey there is a comparative there....Hey, am I physic or will it happen. NANNY state or what........
BOSTON WAS TRULY THE LAST SMOKING "BAND"THAT I REMEMBER SAVING LIVES BY JUMPING INTO THE HOTEL POOL AFTER THEIR 81' VISIT TO RESCUE THOSE WHO COULDN'T SWIM.
Ignoring the obvious advantages to the non-smoking majority, meals out and drinks in an atmosphere unpolluted with the fug of cigarette smoke and the avoidance of passive smoke for bar and catering staff. In Scotland there was a massive surge in people at least trying to give up. Unfortunately I don't have any figures yet for how many more people did actually succeed.
Help what? It means we are no longer a free country. People will be denied their common right. People will be sad and miserable. The Government is set to spend millions on anti-depressants and street cleaning. Thousand of pubs (and other public smoking places) throughout the country will close. Huge rise in global warming due to thousands of patio heaters installed in public places. Nightclubs will close. Mass job losses. And ultimately less sociable people because they will be drinking and smoking at home!
It may help slightly, but what the government hopes will occur will...well...never occur.
Many people may not die out of cancer from smoking...

But they may still die of diseases and of dangers resulting from drinking alcohol, or addition to drugs and so on.

So on the average, just ban on smoking may not have a dramatic effect. Still it is warranted. At least one step forward...
No, people will only stop smoking if they really want to. I smoke and at the moment yeah maybe I would like to try and stop but I have many family problems so I know I am not going to succeed. It's not an excuse for not trying, I am being realistic.
