I was just having an argument with family. My bro reckons U2 was the biggest of the eighties, my cousin reckons its metallica and i have no idea. Tell me who you think is the greatest and why.Which band is the greatest and most influential of the eighties?

Metallica is awesome and so is U2, but their greatness extended well beyond the '80s.

Im not incredibly hip to their music but be sure to consider The Smiths.

U2 is okay at best, what they could be remembered as is one of the few bands to stand tall even after the 80's were over. Motle Crue was bigger in the 80's than Metallica. The biggest star, and no kidding, of the 80's was Michael Jackson. But Motle Crue was the biggest. Metallica didn't get the most exposure until the black album. And tell your brother that Slayer could destroy Metallica. Peace.
