How do I get close to a band in an all-standing concert?

The doors open at 7pm but I guess I will have to wait in a queue to get in and I won't get a good view. What time do you reckon I should go at?How do I get close to a band in an all-standing concert?
It depends on the popularity of the band and the size of the venue - generally, the bigger they are, the earlier you'll have to go. In my opinion, it'd be a bit weird to go more than an hour earlier. I've never been more than half an hour early for a gig and i've always managed to get to the front.

Remember, once you're inside, a few people will run straight to the barrier but lots of people will dither about putting their coats and bags away, getting merchandise, going to the bar etc - you don't have to be first in the queue.

Also, being on the barrier isn't a nice place to be at a gig. Not only is it less lively RIGHT at the front, but you won't be able to crowd surf and you WILL get totally crushed.

The best place to be, generally, (in my experience, at least) is about 3-4 people back. You'll still get a great view but everyone will be jumping around and having a good time rather than just leaning against the barrier and watching. Remember that when the band starts, you'll get pushed around and shoved forward anyway so don't bother finding a perfect spot with a great view because you won't stay there for more than 5 minutes.

Having said that, the front is often so crowded and shove-y that you can't see anything, anyway. If you're going for the music and to enjoy the band (rather than to enjoy the gig atmosphere) then stand a little further back and you'll be able to see better and have some personal space for dancing!
Depends how famous/popular the band is. Some people queue for hours to make sure they get to the front. But you can always squeeze through to get to the front once you're inside. How do I get close to a band in an all-standing concert?
I have known people that have turned up at seven o clock am to get into a gig that opened at like 7 lol xD

Longest I have waited was 3 hours and I got to the front. That was for machine head! so yeah it all depends on the band innit

Edit: IMO The front is DEFINATELY the best place to be, you avoid the mosh but have easy slip access if you want it :D and you get the best view, most interaction with the band etc. I love being at the front :P
mmnn? Doors open at 7pm? People will be queueing long before that- say a couple of hours before. The queue will be quite long by 6pm.

4pm is probably too early but certainly before 5pm to make sure you can get near the front.

Have a great time. How do I get close to a band in an all-standing concert?
Camp outside the night before, that's what a lot of people do. Or if you're feeling brave, you can push your way to the front and hope you don't get beaten up for it.

I would go with option 1
As everyone said it really does matter on the popularity of the band and everything but you can probably get pretty close to the front if you just try to push your way through. Also, if theres bands before the bands you want to see make sure you stay on the floor in between bands cause often people will go get drinks and stuff and while they do that you can get closer.
